Liposuction for Men

Even when you hit your goal weight, it can be frustrating to be left with stubborn fat. This usually exists in areas like the stomach, hips, or back, where fat can take away from your new contours. For the muscle definition you’ve been working on, body contouring procedures can also be an excellent option.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a minimally invasive body contouring procedure designed to remove stubborn fat from different areas of the body. Although liposuction can come in different forms, it usually requires a small incision through which a cannula and surgical vacuum can be inserted to remove fat. It can be performed on most fatty areas of the body and is a popular option for men looking for more definition and to put the finishing touches on their weight loss results.

Candidates for Liposuction

Men who can benefit most from liposuction surgery are those who are at or near their goal weight but are struggling with stubborn pockets of fat. These are most often on areas like the abdomen, hips, thighs, chin, chest, upper arms, and back. It’s important to have a healthy lifestyle established so that you can maintain your results going forward. You should also be healthy enough to undergo a minimally invasive surgery, so Dr. DiFrancesco will discuss your health history during a consultation.

Types of Liposuction

Dr. DiFrancesco offers a few types of liposuction to men looking for extra definition. You’ll discuss the ideal type for you with the help of our board-certified plastic surgeon.

Traditional Liposuction

This type is sometimes called tumescent liposuction because it uses a special tumescent solution to restrict blood vessels and numb the area. Then, a hollow cannula is used to remove the fatty tissue with a gentle back-and-forth motion.

Power Assisted Liposuction

This type of liposuction is similar to the traditional method but instead uses a specialized handpiece that rapidly vibrates to help break up fatty tissue. The benefits include less labor for Dr. DiFrancesco and more effective removal of fibrous tissue in the case of gynecomastia.

SmartLipo™

This type, sometimes called laser liposuction, uses a small laser fiber to liquefy fat cells before removal with a cannula. SmartLipo™ can also stimulate collagen in the skin, causing it to shrink if sagging or loose skin is a concern.

SAFELipo

SAFELipo is one of the newest techniques available and uses a specialized three-step combination process of separation, aspiration, and fat equalization to ensure effective, natural results with less of a toll on the surrounding tissues.

Liposuction Procedure

Each liposuction technique can be performed under local anesthesia with light sedation at our Atlanta office. What the procedure actually entails can depend on how much fat is removed and the areas being treated. Dr. DiFrancesco will ensure you understand the steps of your procedure and how long it will take. After completion, since liposuction is an outpatient procedure, you can return home.

Liposuction Recovery

Liposuction often only requires a few days of downtime, after which you can return to normal activities. It’s important to wear a compression garment on your treatment area for about six weeks in order to reduce swelling and help the skin adhere to the new contours. Although you’ll see results within a week or so, it can take up to six months for your final results to emerge as the swelling goes down and your body adjusts to the new shape.
