We communicate with our facial expressions just as much as we do our words. Unfortunately, as aging sets in, the upper face can begin sending the wrong signals. Lines and folds in the brow, as well as sagging over the eyes, can cause you to look tired or angry, even if you don’t feel like it. Although Botox® can do a lot, surgical procedures can sometimes produce even more transformative, rejuvenating results.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift is a facial plastic surgery procedure that focuses on the brow and upper face. Generally, it can address sagging and drooping in the brow that contribute to the appearance of lines and folds like frown lines, “11s”, and hooded eyelids. During a brow lift, incisions are created to access the underlying tissues for repositioning and rejuvenation. Once lifted into a more youthful position, any excess skin can be trimmed away for a tighter, smoother brow.

Candidates for a Brow Lift

Patients who benefit most from a brow lift are those who want long-term results with a smooth and rejuvenated upper face. It’s important that you be in good overall health and able to undergo surgery, so Dr. DiFrancesco will discuss your health history during your consultation. There is no ideal age at which to opt for a brow lift, but most brow lift patients have tried non-surgical treatments like Botox without achieving their ideal results.

Types of Brow Lift

The brow lift can be performed with a few different techniques. Dr. DiFrancesco can decide which will be best for you based on your goals and anatomy.

Open Brow Lift

This technique uses a long incision across the forehead within the hairline. It can address concerns in both the central forehead and the lateral forehead.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

This technique uses small incisions hidden within the scalp to address concerns in the central and lateral forehead. The advantage of this technique is that it uses an endoscope, or small video camera, which allows for much smaller incisions than the traditional open browlift.

Limited Incision Brow Lift

This technique corrects sagging skin and fat in the lateral brow through a small incision hidden within the temporal hair. It’s often performed at the same time as an upper eyelid lift to contour the brow and upper eyelid.

Brow Lift Procedure

The brow lift is often performed under general anesthesia. Dr. DiFrancesco performs the appropriate incision, after which the tissues can be repositioned and tightened using surgical tools and techniques. Then, the skin is tightened, and any excess is trimmed away. Once the incisions are closed and you undergo a brief monitoring period, you can return home with the help of a friend or family member.

Brow Lift Recovery

You can expect to take one week or so away from work and social engagements while you recover from your brow lift. You’ll experience some swelling and bruising, as well as discomfort which can be managed with prescribed medications. It’s important to follow Dr. DiFrancesco’s aftercare instructions, which often includes avoiding exercise and keeping your head elevated while you sleep. Your results will emerge over the following weeks and months, and we’ll discuss your options for maintaining your results with the right skincare products and professional treatments.
