February 28, 2019
What are the early signs of aging women in their 30s experience?
Fine lines and wrinkles, nasolabial folds, or “laugh lines” develop. Believe it or not the effects of the sun can take 20+ years to become apparent, so many women in their 30’s begin to see the signs of sun damage in the form of dark spots.
How can women in their 30s fight the early signs of aging?
It’s never too late to start using sunscreen. Vitamin C is a great ingredient to stimulate the formation of collagen and guard against UV rays. There are also injectables, fillers and non-invasive procedures.
What are some practical, easy(ish) tips a busy mom can try to incorporate into her life? (healthy habits as well as product recommendations, sun screen, what kind of moisturizer, etc.)
I’m sure you’ve heard people say “drink more water. It’s true, water is the fountain of youth. Keep your body hydrated. It helps with skin elasticity.
Sleep is also vital to glowing skin. Be consistent with bedtime, stay cool, keep the noise down, establish a pre-sleep routine.
Sun Screen – Board Spectrum UVA and UVB coverage
UVA causes lines and wrinkles associated with aging
UVB causes skin cancer
What are the top skincare ingredients women should look for to address skin conditions at this age?
A good cleanser, anti-oxidant and sunscreen. The best anti-oxidant for prevention is going to be Vitamin C. Women have different types of skin; dry, oily, combination or sensitive. There are skin conditions such as acne and rosacea. Recommendations should be made on an individual basis after an evaluation by a professional. In my office, individual skin care regime will be developed after a consultation with my skin care nurse.
If a woman can only incorporate, say, three changes, what should she prioritize?
Sunscreen, drink plenty of water and get quality sleep.
Should women in their 30s use different makeup, moisturizers, creams, and anti-acne products than women in their 20s or 40s?
In your 20’s estrogen peaks meaning women should have their best complexion ever. However, estrogen dips days leading up to your period and that could lead to acne.
Women in their 40’s can expect less firmness, elasticity and moisture. Estrogen related bone loss can lead to sunken eyes. Age spots may become more noticeable.
What are some of the best minimally invasive procedures for women in their 30s?
Chemical peels – peels can vary in intensity, and are used to diminish fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, scars and discoloration. More than one treatment is typically needed to accomplish most beauty goals but working this into your annual or monthly beauty regimen will remove layers of dull, dead skin and allow for your youthful beauty to shine through.
Photorejuvenation – Using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), photorejuvenation treats brown spots, melasma, broken capillaries and sun spots using a tool that emits a light to heat up collagen beneath the skin, encouraging the body to produce more of this beneficial protein.
Injectables/Fillers – Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Radiesse and Restylane are commonplace names by now, and results are immediate. They can help diminish and/or prevent wrinkles and help fill out parts of the face that hollow out or lose volume with age.
Botox- the most common non-surgical cosmetic procedure with over 6 million performed annually. It serves to weaken muscles in which repetitive contraction causes lines and wrinkle. Most common areas include the “11” lines (frown lines between the eyebrows), forehead and crow’s feet.
Microdermabrasion – Microdermabrasion removes the upper layers of skin with a rotating sloughing surface to eliminate acne scars, wrinkles and other skin blemishes.
Microneedling –tiny needles create microchannels in the skin. Stimulates your skins natural ability to heal and produces elastin and collagen. It produces smooth skin, diminish wrinkles, and correct pigmentation problems, as well as stimulate collagen growth and tighten the skin. It is especially good with acne scars.
Should women in their 30s start with injectables? Facial lasers? What are the best non-invasive or minimally invasive procedures to help with facial lines, enlarged pores, and sagging skin?
Women should come in for a consultation to evaluate skin type and skin condition to determine the best regime for them.
What about body tightening procedures and non-invasive liposuction alternatives like CoolSculpting?
Sculpsure- FDA-approved noninvasive fat reduction procedure. Treatment takes 25 minutes with no downtime and 25% reduction in fat per treatment. State of the art-controlled light based technology to get rid of stubborn areas of fat resistant to diet and exercise.
What about the price range and down time?
Pricing varies per procedure. Downtime is none to minimal with swelling, bruising or mild redness for a day or two.
What about men in their 30s? Any tips for them? Are there minimally invasive procedures for balding and/or too much hair in certain places?
