A mommy makeover is a combination of cosmetic procedures that restore your pre-pregnancy appearance. While there are many versions of a mommy makeover, a typical makeover might include a tummy tuck, breast surgery (breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction) and liposuction of the legs, arms and stomach.
What is a Mommy Makeover?
Pregnancy causes significant changes in a woman’s body. After going through pregnancy many women have a hard time accepting the new way their body looks. Getting back to that pre-baby body can be difficult, even with a proper diet and a lot of exercise. The mommy makeover surgery blends together body contouring procedures so that women can get back to their ideal body look.
Candidates for a Mommy Makeover?
The mommy makeover surgery is designed for those who have tried to get back to their pre-baby body but can’t seem to get back to their ideal shape and contour. If you have sagging, uneven breasts, excess tissue on the stomach, stretch marks, love handles, and or excess fat, this surgery can help to address all these concerns. With a consultation with Dr. DiFrancesco, she can help you choose the best procedures to give you the best results. For this procedure, it is best if you are done having children as any future pregnancies could obstruct the results.
Mommy Makeover Procedures
There are different procedures combined in the mommy makeover surgery. These procedures are:
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
The tummy tuck procedure flattens, firms, and contours your abdomen area, creating a more ideal profile. This surgery helps to remove excess skin and fat while tightening the abdominal muscles. There are different variations of the tummy tuck such as the endoscopic abdominoplasty, the mini abdominoplasty, and the modified abdominoplasty. The type of abdominoplasty used will depend on how much excess skin and fat tissue you have as well as your desired result.
The breast augmentation procedure enhances the size and shape of your breasts to make them more proportional to your body, give a more feminine profile, and improve your overall self-esteem. Breast augmentation uses implants or fat transfer to give you fuller breasts. Getting saline or silicone implants is one of the most common plastic surgeries done each year.
Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
The breast life procedure helps to raise, lift, and firm the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. This is great for giving women youthful, perky, naturally-shaped breasts. Many problems after pregnancy involve sagging breasts and droopy nipples, the mastopexy procedure addresses these concerns. There are many different incision types used during the breast lift depending on your degree of sagging and desired results.
The liposuction procedure is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries done each year. It helps to get rid of fat, tighten skin, contour, and reshape your body. Liposuction can be used on multiple areas of the body such as the neck, back, abdomen, hips, buttocks, knee, thighs, arms, and calves. It is done in combination with many surgeries to help contour the body to the desired look.
The Mommy Makeover Procedure
Since the mommy makeover is a term used to describe the combination of procedures used, each surgery is different for each patient. At a consultation with Dr. DiFrancesco, she will help you decide on which procedures will benefit you the most to get your desired look. You should be healthy, at a stable weight, and a non-smoker before undergoing this surgery. You should also make sure that your home is prepared for your recovery time and you have someone able to assist you during healing. After the surgery, you may wear a compression garment to help reduce any swelling, inflammation or bleeding. Swelling, redness, and some discomfort is normal during the recovery period, if the pain becomes unbearable then contact our office. Most patients return to work and most daily activities within two-to-three weeks of surgery, but strenuous activity should be monitored for six weeks. Dr. DiFrancesco will help you along the recovery period so you know when you are good to resume all activities.
