Dr. DiFrancesco offers labiaplasty for vaginal rejuvenation. It’s a form of plastic surgery that involves the reshaping of the vulva or labia, the outer and inner lips of the vagina. It has become an increasingly popular plastic surgery option for women. For individuals who desire recontouring after childbirth, significant weight fluctuations, aging, or injury to genital structures, labiaplasties offer increased self-confidence and comfort.
Labiaplasty
Concerns about womenโs intimate health arenโt often talked about. For many women, this means they suffer in silence when it comes to feeling confident in their intimate life and their bodies after life events like childbirth or substantial weight loss. In some cases, surgical procedures are some of the most effective ways women have to reshape and restore the vulva, labia and clitoris with the help of board-certified plastic surgeons.
What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a vaginal rejuvenation treatment that involves the reshaping of the vulva, labia majora and minora, and clitoris. It has become an increasingly popular option for women. In many cases, it can effectively reduce enlarged labia and restore labia that have torn or become displaced by childbirth. Often, women that opt for labiaplasty have labia that affect their quality of life by causing discomfort and wardrobe concerns. However, labiaplasty can also be performed for cosmetic reasons.
Candidates for Labiaplasty
For women who desire recontouring after childbirth, significant weight loss, aging, due to painful sex, or injury to genital structures or vaginal tissue, labiaplasty offers increased self-confidence and comfort when wearing tight clothing or during sexual activity. Additionally, many women who opt for vaginal rejuvenation procedures like labiaplasty also experience vaginal dryness and itchiness because of elongated labia. It can also be used to reduce asymmetry.
In order to be a good candidate for vaginal rejuvenation surgeries, you should be in overall good health, able to undergo cosmetic surgery, and have realistic expectations. If youโve recently given birth, you should be fully recovered. During a private consultation, Dr. DiFrancesco can assess your anatomy and goals to determine if vaginal rejuvenation surgery is the best option for you. Because of the sensitive nature of this procedure, before-and-after pictures will be available at your consultation.
Types of Labiaplasty
There are generally two techniques that can be used to help patients reduce the labia during vaginal rejuvenation surgery. Dr. DiFrancesco can determine which option will suit you and your goals best so you have a full understanding of your surgical plan.
Trim Procedure
During this type of procedure, the labia are simply trimmed down by removing excess skin from the edge of the labia. The remaining tissue is then sutured and the treatment area is made ready for recovery. This option often comes with less pain and lesser downtime for patients.
Wedge Procedure
This option maintains the natural border of the labia but removes a wedge-shaped section. This allows the edges of the removed section to be sutured closer together for effective reduction.
Labiaplasty Procedure
Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure, and itโs often performed under local anesthetic or general anesthesia so you won’t experience pain during the procedure. It usually takes around one hour, and you can return home afterward. During your consultation, Dr. DiFrancesco will go over your unique surgical plan so you know.

Most patients require around one week off work and regular activities. During this time, you may experience discomfort and swelling but you can reduce swelling using ice packs at the surgical site and by wearing compression garments. It can take between four to six weeks for most swelling to subside, and you should avoid intercourse and the use of tampons during this time.
Dr. DiFrancesco will prescribe medications to manage pain and swelling and will instruct you on the most appropriate sleeping positions to avoid complications. In total, it can take up to six months for any residual swelling to go away.
