A fat grafting procedure transfers fat from areas in which you have excess fat, such as the outer thighs, and injects it into areas that may be lacking in volume, such as your face, hands, breasts or buttocks. This safe, long-lasting, well-tolerated procedure produces natural-looking results. Every year, thousands of people undergo successful fat grafting and are pleased with the results.
With more women preferring curves and a well-shaped hourglass figure, it’s natural to look for options that don’t require extensive surgery or downtime. Rather than implants, fat transfer techniques are now a natural alternative that are becoming a choice option for many patients. One procedure that uses this technique best is the Brazilian butt lift.
The Brazilian butt lift uses autologous fat grafting to enhance and augment the buttocks for a fuller, rounder figure. Although traditional buttock enhancement procedures use implants, many patients prefer the Brazilian butt lift for its reduced downtime and natural-feeling results. It also comes with the benefit of fat reduction at the chosen donor areas. This means the Brazilian butt lift can produce a sculpted and contoured figure in one simple, minimally-invasive procedure.
One of the most important considerations for the Brazilian Butt Lift is that you have enough fat in your donor area for your goals. Often, you’ll experience some loss of volume after the procedure, so Dr. DiFrancesco can assess whether you have enough fatty tissue to achieve your intended results. It’s important to be in good overall health and able to undergo a minimally-invasive surgery, so Dr. DiFrancesco will discuss your health history during a consultation.

The Brazilian Butt Lift can be performed with a local anesthetic and you can return home afterwards. It’s performed in a few different steps, and Dr. DiFrancesco will go over each one during your consultation so you know what to expect.
The first step is a liposuction procedure on your donor area (commonly the abdomen, flanks, hips, or thighs). This process collects fatty tissue with a small incision and a surgical cannula. Dr. DiFrancesco uses a gentle back-and-forth motion to help break up fat for easier removal with a surgical vacuum. After enough fat is collected, the incisions are closed with special sutures.
After the fat is collected, it’s purified and made ready for the injection process. Usually, this includes separating the fat cells from the liquid to ensure pure fat cells can be placed in specialized syringes to be injected.
This step includes careful planning and an artistic eye. Dr. DiFrancesco will use multiple syringes and many small injections to ensure your results are well-shaped, evenly distributed, and natural-looking. It’s common practice to inject more fat than is needed for your results during this step since not all of the fat cells survive the transfer process. After this step is complete, you’ll be made ready for your recovery and trip home.
Although the Brazilian butt lift comes with a shorter recovery than implant augmentation, you’ll need to take certain important steps to make sure your recovery is successful. This includes avoiding sitting directly on your transferred fat until it can establish new blood supply and settle into its new location. This means you may need to use a specialized pillow during this time. Additionally, you’ll need to wear a compression garment at your incision sites to aid blood flow and help the skin adhere to the new contours. You’ll be prescribed medications to manage swelling and discomfort, so take these according to instructions. Most patients can return to their regular light activities within a week or so. Over the following weeks and months, your results will emerge with some loss of volume over time. With the right aftercare and healthy lifestyle, fat transfer results are often permanent.
The Brazilian butt lift is an extremely popular procedure for its excellent, natural-looking results and short recovery period. It’s important to discuss your goals for a Brazilian butt lift with an experienced and board certified plastic surgeon.
